Call for Papers

Deadline for Submissions: 5th January 2013

The Board of Editors are now accepting submissions for the newest edition of Praxis: International Postgraduate Journal of Philosophy, to be published online in March 2013. Since 2007, Praxis has been run exclusively by a team of postgraduate students at the University of Manchester, with an international cadre of postgraduate referees dedicated to showcasing the very best peer-reviewed postgraduate work in philosophy. After receiving financial support from the Researcher-led initiatives (University of Manchester), the editorial team is implementing a project to improve editorial quality and web access. The forthcoming number will include the publication of a new website.

In particular, the editors welcome original and unpublished papers from current postgraduate students, post-doctoral scholars and new academics as a forum for intra-disciplinary debate. All peer-reviewed submissions will receive feedback from referees, as well as further guidance towards eventual publication.

Submissions for Praxis may take the form of an original paper, a critical notice or critical response to papers published in earlier editions, or a book review. All submissions must be in English, but no restrictions are imposed as to the subject matter or the philosophical tradition (analytic, continental, Thomistic, etc.). Original papers should be 4000-6000 words in length, whereas critical notices or replies should be no more than 3000 words. In the case of book reviews, authors should aim to make these between 500 and 1500 words in length.

To submit a paper, authors should attach a .doc or .docx in an e-mail to, marking the subject line ‘Praxis submission’. As part of their submission, authors should further ensure that their manuscripts are suitable for blind peer- review and that there are no references to the author–direct or otherwise–except in the case of book reviews. Manuscripts should be double-spaced, presented in either Times New Roman or Courier fonts, and should present their references in the Harvard Style. Full details of the style requirements are presented here (under “Authors”):

Authors who are interested in writing book reviews for Praxis should inform the editors directly of their intention in an email. Although book reviews are not peer-reviewed they are nevertheless subject to editor scrutiny and will therefore be evaluated with respect to the journal’s already-existing standards of quality. Reviewed books may either belong to the list of Books Received, or may be recommended by the reviewer themselves. To apply to be a reviewer, please contact the editors at the above address by e-mail, attaching a CV with a brief explanation as to why the suggested book should be reviewed.

Finally, please note that no submission to Praxis should be under consideration elsewhere.
